At the Saturday, March 6, meeting, Council commenced the deliberation process with its first meeting in order to develop the FY 10/11 budget document. City Council did not make any decisions at this meeting, but will begin making decisions in subsequent deliberation meetings and these decisions will be incorporated in the final budget document which will be formally adopted by the City Council the end of June.
At the Saturday, March 6 meeting, the City Manager reported on the community input process and revisions on his budget recommendation strategy. The staff report and presentation can be viewed by visting the Budget Deficit Update Page.
The next deliberation meeting will be back-to-back meetings starting Monday evening, March 15, followed by Tuesday evening, March 16. Both meetings begin at 6:30 P.M. and will be held at City Council Chambers (901 Sherman Avenue).
As a reminder, in order to balance the budget, the City Council will be deliberating on the $5 million in ongoing expenditure reductions or new revenues to address the structural deficit. Once the deliberations on these expenditure and revenue adjustments are made, they become permanent changes to the operating budget that carry forward to future years, so no further adjustments will be necessary in future years unless circumstances change.
City Council's deliberation schedules can be found by clicking here for the Budget Calendar. Prior to attending any deliberation meeting, please check the website to ensure that a meeting is in fact scheduled that day you wish to attend, as the Council may require more or less deliberation meetings than are currently scheduled.
We welcome and encourage you to attend the next budget deliberation meeting on Monday, March 15, beginning at 6:30 PM at City Council Chambers, 901 Sherman Avenue.
